NFL RESULTS WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 19TH TO SEPTEMBER 23RD OF 2013

NFL Results weekend September 19th to September 23rd of 2013

Week 3 started to sort things out a bit in the NFL:

1) 09/22/13 - (10/11) New York (+1.5)  AT  (10/11) Carolina (-1.5)

Carolina crushed the Giants sending them to 0-3. We have seen this before with New York and warn to avoid them until they start winning.  They have been streaky under Coughlin and could win their last 9 or 10 games, or not.  We also caution to avoid Carolina for a couple of weeks as it is uncertain as to what quality this years model is.  They certainly cannot count on scoring 38 points or recording 7 sacks every game.

Selection:   (10/11) New York Giants (+1.5)

Winner(s):   (10/11) Carolina Panthers (-1.5) by 38

2) 09/22/13 - (11/4) Tampa Bay (+7.0)  AT  (2/7) New England (-7.0)

As predicted, the Patriots defense shone giving up a mere 3 points while recording several sacks, an interception  and stopping the Bucs 4 times (at least) on 4th down moving to 2nd place in points allowed 7 points behind Seattle.  Tampa got close to a TD on a dubious pass interference call against Arrington but could not convert it into points.  The New England offense on the other hand scored 23 unanswered points while Brady gave away 7 more on an endzone pick, another 7 near the end of the game while killing the clock  and looked more interested in involving all of the rookie pass catchers than scoring more points

Selection:   (2/7) New England Patriots

Winner(s):   (2/7) New England Patriots (-7.0) by 20

3) 09/22/13 - (5/2) Cleveland (+7.0)  AT  (1/3) Minnesota (-7.0)

As expected, in what should have been the Brady’s Bostonian Backup Battle, the Browns held AP to under 100 yards and Brian Hoyer led Cleveland to a win. The Vikings again started Ponder who again turned the ball over while the other former Patriot backup Matt Cassel watched helplessly on the bench as Minnesota fell to 0-3.  We really hope Cassel will be the starter next week in London Town when the travel across the pond to take on the Steelers in Week 4 and that Browns’ Rookie coach Rob Chudzinski sticks with the QB who got him his first NFL win in Hoyer.  Belichick didn’t have these guys backing up Brady for years because they couldn’t play.

Selection:   (5/2) Cleveland Browns (+7.0)

Winner(s):   (5/2) Cleveland Browns (+7.0) by 4

4) 09/22/13 - (13/10) San Diego (+3.0)  AT  (4/6) Tennessee (-3.0)

San diego was tied or led for the first 59 minutes and 45 seconds of the game however a very badly defended 34 yard Tennessee touchdown with 15 seconds left in the game snatched defeat out of the jaws of a Chargers’ victory and gave the Titans the lead when it counted – At the end of the game.  The Chargers needed to win this game but they did not.  The Titans moved into a tie for first place in the AFC South with the win coupled by the Texans’ loss in what is now a wide open division.  On the plus side the point spread bet was a push

Selection:   (13/10) San Diego Chargers (+3.0)

Winner(s):   (4/6) Tennessee Titans (PUSH) by 3

5) 09/22/13 - (13/10) Atlanta (+3.0)  AT  (4/6) Miami (-3.0)

In this match Atlanta took the lead first, was leading or tied 0-0 for 59 mintes and 24 seconds only to lose on a late TD capping another Tannehill 4th quarter come from behind victory.  With under 5 minutes left Atlanta had driven down the field to the 17 yard line after a 62 yard catch had been called back at the beginning of that drive.  It was 3rd and 4.  A dropped pass made it 4th and 4.  Not only did they miss the ill advised field goal attempt they also gave Miami 8 yards when the ball got placed on the 25.  The Dolphins helped the resurging AFC East remain undefeated outside their division and stay tied with New England at 3-0 and the head-to-head matches in week 8 & week 15 could end up deciding the division.  Good stuff for AFC East fans.

Selection:   (13/10) Atlanta Falcons (+3.0)

Winner(s):   (4/6) Miami  Dolphins (-3.0) by 4

6) 09/22/13 - (6/5) Buffalo (+2.5)  AT  (5/7) New York (-2.5)

This battle of rookie quarterbacks fizzled as neither one played well.  Smith played a little better than Manuel and although the Jets took a lot of penalties they got the calls (and non-calls) they needed from the officials to secure the Win.  On the penultimate Bills drive Manuel needed only to keep the throw in bounds to secure a pass interference call that would have given the Bills the ball in Jets territory with about 2 minutes left.  He failed as did Buffalo.

Selection:   (6/5) Buffalo Bills (+2.5)

Winner(s):   (5/7) New York Jets (-2.5) by 7

09/22/13 - (4/6) Green Bay (-3.0)  AT  (13/10) Cincinnati (+3.0)

Winner(s):   (13/10) Cincinnati Bengals (+3.0) by 4

09/22/13 - (10/13) Chicago (-2.0)  AT  (11/10) Pittsburg (+2.0)
Selection:   (10/13) Pittsburg Steelers (+2.0)

Winner(s):   (10/13) Chicago  Bears (-2.0)  by  17

Detroit did play like a 12-4 team instead of a 4-12 one while Washington continued to struggle. Baltimore was adjustied to the new personnel groupings today at least and are starting to play as we have been expecting them to. Green Bay seems to have lost some lustre while the Bengals continued to improve with a nice come from behind victory today.  The Steelers looked great at times and not so great as well, especialy when Big Ben literally dropped the ball.  It sure looked like the referees bet on Chicago.
